There's a nice profile in the Denver Post today of Denver Judge John Marcucci, who presides over Courtroom 12T, the Denver County Court where new arrestees are brought every morning to be advised of their rights. This is a job that requires patience, humor, and the ability to operate in an emergency room-type environment. Most judges request another assignment after two years. Not Judge...

I think I'm ready for the next round of party hopping tonight. I'm going to be a wreck by Monday, but boy -- I'll have water cooler stories for ages from this, right? Right. Gotta keep telling myself how lucky I am. Riiiiight.
It's Saturday, 3 p.m., and I'm still drinking coffee after sleeping in until noon. I realize that sounds horribly lazy, but I had only four hours of sleep the...

Anyone who was home in Capitol Hill or Uptown last night could not mistake the police sirens, searchlights and buzzing helicopters for anything but a manhunt. Blogger Mike Ditto of Janus, who had a police scanner going, and I were live-blogging the action in the comments section. Several times we thought they nabbed him -- only to be mistaken. What we learned is that a lot goes on in Denver...

Kat and Jeralyn have both reported on the lack of activity downtown; perhaps all the celebrities are hanging in Cherry Creek. 5280 staffers and friends saw these celebs today:
Cameron Diaz at Mirepoix
P. Diddy at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center
50 Cent also at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center
Elsewhere in town, we spotted Shaquille O'Neal and Yao Ming at the Westin Tabor Center, and P...

I agree with Kat, downtown is dead. Friday night, 7:30 pm, streets, the parking garage, even the bar and restaurant at a fancy hotel with many registered stars, were empty. Driving past the convention center, traffic flowed like a regular day. Looking inside, there were very few people on the escalators. However, there are more police cars dowtown than I've ever seen.
So, where is everybody...

First impression of the All Star Weekend party scene? In a word, underwhelming.
Like, way underwhelming. Empty clubs, sparse crowds, and a really annoying, itchy embarrassed feeling creeping up my spine as I realize that the hype hasn't reflected reality. Downtown Denver's dead, and I'm hoping that the rest of the weekend will be better.
However. The night was not a complete loss; they...

Ken Salazar, Colorado's new U.S. Senator, continues to confound his party's faithful with his dual voting pattern.
First there was his support for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, opposed by almost every other Democratic Senator in Congress. Then came his vote for Condoleeza Rice as Secretary of State. On Social Security, he stood with the Dems, even making a public statement against...

Hmm. Here's an interesting tidbit of info from my friend over at Star Limousine. Seems that most of the PR people and celebrity publicists and managers are in town already, but the biggets bold names aren't coming in until Saturday.
She politely skirted the issue of naming names, but apparently every limo and town car in their fleet is booked solid, save for a few reserved for individual...

The All Star Party Posse hits the town starting tonight. For many of the events, I'm actually flying solo, but there are several of my friends in the same boat and we're all keeping in touch over the weekend.
It's officially going to be insane. Even for me, a self-proclaimed hardcore party hound, this will be challenging. I'm trying to scout out as many events as possible, hoping to spot...

The lines have been drawn. Sides have been chosen. Dueling media campaigns are about to begin in the fight for votes over whether Denver gets a new jail.
In one corner we have Citizens for a Safe Denver, led by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and with a team that includes "[Denver attorney] Frances Koncilja, Community College of Denver president Christine Johnson, Denver Metro Convention...
