I'd seen this article by Rep. Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) in an e-mail that was circulating, but I didn't see a link to it on-line until Coyote Gulch posted it the other day. It's Udall's contribution to the ongoing discussion about the emergence of the Rocky Mountain West as a political battleground between Democrats and Republicans.
But you can also view it as Udall raising his political...

Sure, he lives in a pineapple under the sea, but does that mean that SpongeBob SquarePants is a, gasp, homosexual?
According to Dr. James Dobson, the answer may be yes. And that has the founder of the Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family in yet another tizzy.
Now, Dr. Dobson said, SpongeBob's creators had enlisted him in a "pro-homosexual video," in which he appeared alongside children's...

Free gin, anyone?
The brand-new Club Moto is hosting the 3rd annual Tanqueray party Friday night. (Funny, but I think you have to have the first annual and second annual at the same place before you can host the 3rd annual event, but what the hell do I know?)
Back to the point -- free drinks -- the gin will flow freely from 11 p.m. to midnight at Club Moto's Friday night hip-hop and R...

I wish they were kidding.
I just got an invite to a Paris "that's hot!" Hilton look-alike contest at Beyond nightclub next Tuesday. Does anyone else find that creepy and disturbing? They might as well put out a call for all anorexic, bitchy bleached blondes with mean streaks to show up. (Um, like, the trust fund? It's like, so totally optional.)
I guess we all have our celebrities we love...

It's official. Denver will appeal the decision of Civil Service Commission hearing officer John Criswell reducing Denver police officer James Turney's suspension over the Paul Childs shooting from 10 months to five days."We strongly believe that the hearing officer erroneously interpreted departmental and civil service rules in reaching his decision, and we also believe that his decision...

Last night, a strange thing happened. A new neighbor moved in next door to us in our Wash Park duplex. Not so strange so far, right? But here's the thing. He bopped around the neighborhood earlier this week, ringing doorbells and dropping off casual flyers, inviting the people on the surrounding blocks to drop in for an open house to meet him, and each other. It was sort of a self-starter...

A Colorado man writes to the New Haven Advocate explaining that Jesus may have had the munchies. The more interesting part of his letter concerns deceased Secretary of State Vickie Buckley and her alleged attempts to keep a marijuana initiative off the Colorado ballot:
In 1998 a medical marijuana (cannabis) amendment should have been placed on the ballot, but Secretary of State Vicky Buckley...

Don't tell Rep. Tom Tancredo, but the Colorado House just approved a bill to allow legal immigrants to receive Medicaid. Two years ago the legislature cut the benefits as a cost-saving device. Court challenges prevented the cuts from going into effect, but last month, the funds to continue providing the benefits ran out.
...lawmakers now say the cuts are no longer needed because money is...

Shake it, shake it... shake it like a Polaroid picture...
In this case, you'll be shaking your cocktail, not your booty.
Thursday night is the private grand opening bash for the Martini Ranch Denver in Larimer Square. They opened in December, but they've finally gotten good enough at mixing drinks to invite the media in to judge, err... I mean, to enjoy their hospitality.
We'll be...

National Public Radio (NPR) is running a two part series on the growth of Colorado Springs' evangelical movement, highlighting James Dobson's Focus on Family Values and Ted Haggard's New Life Church.
The city has become a special place for evangelical Christians, like Ted Haggard, pastor of the 11,000-member New Life Church and president of the National Association of Evangelicals. Haggard came...
