After winning an election focused almost exclusively on national security, George W. Bush has apparently decided he has a mandate to abolish Social Security and replace it with a system of forced savings accounts. The Denver Post, which endorsed Bush, ran a story today, the title of which at least directly supports the Bush agenda: "Seniors Outlive Promise Made By Social Security."
While the...

Newly elected Eighteenth Judicial District Attorney Carol Chambers has started her tenure with a bitter public fight with the county commissioners of the four counties (Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln) that make up her district.
The fight started when the commissioners of the four counties voted to set Chambers' salary at $120,000, nearly $30,000 less than her predecessor, and also...

I meant to write this up last week, but I was way too baked. Anyway, 11 righteous skiers and snowboarders were busted for burning a little weed the morning after 14 inches of freshies fell in Steamboat Springs. OK, more than a little.Ski area spokesman Mike Lane says the sheriff was called in because of complaints that the gondola cars reeked of marijuana. The 11 snowriders cited Thursday...

Readers of Colorado Springs' Gazette will find something unusual in their Sunday papers this weekend: a copy of the New Testament.
Inside, in addition to the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, etc., Colorado Springs' version includes a brief history of the city, as well as testimonials from two "regular" locals who have found God. Rhonda, 38, is pictured in a leather Harley girl get-up and...

Mynt True Lounge has just received a makeover. Not in the "Extreme Makeover" sense that we've all grown to love/hate. This is less a serious hack job, and more of a mild "Trading Spaces" update. Welcome to the new version, Mynt Mojito Lounge. To celebrate the third anniversary of the sleek cocktail lounge, the remodel is less streamlined and mod, and more comfortable and exotic. The too-...

This is hardly a surprise, but former Denver Mayor Welling Webb has formally announced his candidacy for the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee. Webb, who was mayor from 1991 to 2003, is basing his campaign on the premise that the party needs a Washington outsider to lead it.
He also said that the Democrats needs to focus more on the South and the West moving forward.
"I think...

Mezcal officially celebrated its first anniversary last night, but the party continues this weekend. Saturday night at 9 p.m., the kitschy-cool Colfax Avenue restaurant will be serving up complimentary Corzo margs, Cocojitos, hors d'oeuvres, and birthday cake.
And thought I'm never one to turn my nose up at a freebie, I recommend substituting the margarita for the Sangre de Santos house...

Rise Nightclub wants to help out Denver's singles. Dating can be difficult, and meeting people can be the hardest part. So Saturday night, the Red Light/ Green Light party will make it abundantly clear who is looking for the hookup.
Party peeps can opt for a green necklace on their way in - meaning "go for it." Or if you're taken (or just not in the mood for flirting) a red necklace...

A recent article in The Nation helps cement the emerging conventional wisdom that the Rocky Mountain states are the new swing territory between the Democrats and Republicans, where Southern-style cultural politics don't move voters to the GOP and a new generation of down-to-earth Democrats like Senator-elect Ken Salazar of Colorado and Governor-elect Brian Schweitzer of Montana are putting the...
