You know what I like about Globe Hall? I like that the barbecue spot doesn’t try too hard. It’s not fancy, it’s not polished. “Plates” are squares of parchment paper, napkins are paper towels, the beer and cocktail options are lean, and you eat at unadorned tables.

What this all means is that you notice the food—really notice it. And that’s good because Globe Hall serves crave-worthy Texas-style ‘cue. Owner Jeff Cornelius is from Texas and he takes his barbecue very seriously (ask to see Betty the smoker out back). Cornelius and his kitchen crew have been testing and tweaking recipes for weeks and the results are smoky ribs with thick bark and tender meat; brisket that’s rich with marbling (ask for a fatty slice, not a lean slice); and potato salad that just might turn me into a potato salad fan.

Perhaps best of all, as low-key as Globe Hall is, it’s also terrifically multifaceted: it’s a divey barbecue joint, a road house, and a music hall all in one. There’s simply nothing else like it in Denver.
