Film Festival Flix: The Athlete

In 1960 (well before barefoot running was mainstream), Ethiopian Abebe Bikila ran through the streets of Rome sans shoes on his way to becoming the first African to win Olympic gold in the marathon. Bikila, who won back-to-back gold medals in the event, is the protaganist of the biopic The Athlete. After being paralyzed in a car accident in 1969, Bikila focused on other athletic pursuits, including archery at the Paralympics and dog sledding.

MV & EE and The Golden Road

This band from Vermont, that named themselves from their initials, mixes blues, jam music, and psychedelic sounds to create their music. Matt Valentine and Erika Elder have worked together since 2000 with many different artists to create their unique sounds of harmonica, bass, drums, and guitar. Hear songs from their album, Space Homestead, like “Workingman’s Smile” and “Too Far to See.” Tue 9 p.m.
