Combining multiple genres, the artist's 30 paintings and 12 drawings conceived over more than a decade, almost appear to overflow with expressionist energy. The Dana Schutz's absurd subject matters present invented stories and hypothetical scenes. For instance, "Frank from Observation," one work within the series presents a fictional character, Frank, as the last man on earth, as invented by the artist herself, and the last living painter.
