Under the festival’s namesake five guiding values—respect, commitment, humility, purpose, and balance—the Patagonia-sponsored event yields a lineup of tales that encompasses beautiful insights into the human condition in times of struggle, determination, and triumph. Catch All That I Am, which follows a mountain biker’s recovery in the aftermath of an accident.

Communikey Festival

In the digital age, face-to-face interaction is becoming more rare. At this festival—centered on the theme “Hello, Stranger”—electronic musicians, DJs, and producers will explore how the ubiquity of technology has affected the ways people connect with one another. Local talent—including DJs Attentat and John Templeton—will take the stage, as well as acts from creative hubs such as New York, Germany, and Japan. Bonus: Films, multimedia art exhibits, and speakers are also on the lineup. Thu 1 p.m.-Sun 10 p.m.

The Athena Award is given to a woman who radiates a high level of accomplishment, excels in her chosen field, and gives back to the community in her chosen way, such as Carita Watson, the global transformation executive for IBM Global Services and winner of the 2012 Athena Award.

Dining Out for Life

Seize the opportunity to help others with an altruistic night out. More than 300 participating restaurants across the greater Denver metro area will donate 25 percent of all food sales—for one day only—to Project Angel Heart, an organization assisting those with life threatening illnesses. While the 2013 restaurant list is yet to be released, 2012 participants provided diners an impressive range of options—from fine dining at Rioja to a casual burger and beer at the Cherry Cricket. A Sin City coffee shop used to be the only spot to catch this comedian. Now, he’s on a national tour. Jo Koy, a regular guest on the hit talk show Chelsea Lately, holds nothing back, joking about everything from race to family lifestyles to orange chicken. Koy has his own Comedy Central special and has appeared on shows like the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Thu 7:30 p.m.; Fri-Sat 7:15 p.m., 9:45 p.m.

Prepare your ears for some high pitched notes. The heartwarming coming of age story of the March sisters is set to tunes in this musical production. See Jo, May, Amy, and Beth maneuver through their triumphs and tribulations during the Civil War as they encounter hardship and tragedy as well as love and adventure. The operatic adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic tale boasts an original libretto—written by composer Mark Adamo—packed full of beautiful harmonies and powerfully performed by the expert voices of the talented cast.
