Spark Mark: An Open Show of Drawing

This exhibit features the area's best doodlers. Original drawings on paper, sketchbooks, and other similar materials will be displayed during the month-long exhibition, which kicks off with an opening reception on August 9. Dates, times vary.

Telluride Chamber Music Festival

This festival gives audiences intimat access to small classical ensembles. Hearing classical music the way it would have been heard hundreds of years ago, listeners join players in regal settings, getting so close they may feel the floor vibrate with each movement. Days, times vary. 

Boulder Stroke & Stride

Locals and world-class competitors race head-to-head in either a 750- or 1500-meter swim in the Boulder Reservoir. An optional 5K run immediately follows the swim, and a generous spread of food waits all at the finish. Thu 6 p.m.

 

Denver Burger Battle

The burger has graduated from backyard barbecue staple to serious haute cuisine. Join 12 of Denver’s top burger maestros—from Linger, Highland Tap & Burger, and TAG Burger Bar, among others—as they try to flip, flame, and char-broil their way to victory during this charity competition. Nosh on unlimited samples of each chef’s creation (paired with local craft beers and wines), then vote for your favorite. Thu 6-9:30 p.m.

 

Culinary Design Challenge

This competition takes the phrase “edible art” to a whole new level. In 45 minutes, five teams—a local culinary talent paired with a top design professional, plus one student duo—will use the same ingredients to create a gastronomic masterpiece that represents their assigned applicance. Tickets include appetizers, cocktails, and a sampling of the finished products. The event benefits We Don't Waste, a Denver organization that distributes food to in-need populations. Thu 6-9 p.m.

Steely Dan

Steely Dan has been playing complex jazz-infused rock and pop since 1972. In recent years, the group has been focusing on touring and performing live to sold-out audiences. Thu 7:30 p.m.
