A rotating team of up to 12 cellists aim to defy genre boundaries during performances of elegant classical music punctuated by string renditions of modern hits by anyone from Radiohead to Kanye West. In addition to its eclectic repertoire, the troupe challenges convention by hauling its instruments into diverse places as punk clubs, the Prairie Home Companion stage, and the Portland Trailblazers halftime show. Expect to hear expertly arranged tracks from last year’s album Homage, which included a cover of “Hey Ya!” by Outkast. Opening act is folk trio—and fellow Portlanders—the Alialujah Choir.
