Dallas Buyers Club
There are plenty of big-screen stories in which AIDS is integral to the plotline (Philadelphia, Rent), but Dallas Buyers Club takes an original approach by exploring the pharmaceutical side of things. DBC tells the true story of Texas electrician Ron Woodroof (played by a skeleton-thin Matthew McConaughey) who, after being diagnosed with HIV and finding treatment options poor and ineffective, searches for other (possibly) illegal alternatives. This becomes the Dallas Buyers Club, an underground network of HIV patients determined to find a better way to live—and die. Bonus: Denver actor Scott Takeda shares screen time with McConaughey. Days, times vary.
