Rashid Johnson: New Growth
Rashid Johnson’s art started with a simple question: What would happen if a prolific jazz musician, a scientist, and an artist started a community together in the desert? Moving fluidly among the past, present, and future, Johnson uses “historically loaded” materials like shea butter and black soap to explore identity through a series of paintings, sculptures, and installations. Tue-Thu noon-7 p.m.; Fri noon-9 p.m.; Sat-Sun 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
