Survival Standard

Submitted by Beau Berkley on Thu, 10/06/2016 - 4:57pm

This five-day course prepares students for outdoor survival in the rough Colorado wilderness by teaching them basic skills like how to build a sturdy shelter, how to forage for food and water, and how to construct a fire that won’t fizzle out. Students are in good hands with instructor Robert Allen, a U.S. Army veteran and founder of the Sigma 3 Survival School, which offers a wide array of outdoor survival training sessions. Fri 8 a.m.

Three-Person Exhibition: Greg Gandy, Jeremy Mann, and Timothy P. Wilson

Submitted by Paul Albani-Burgio on Fri, 10/07/2016 - 2:24pm

Viewed together, the oil paintings of artists Greg Gandy, Jeremy Mann, and Timothy P. Wilson present a study of the continuum of realism to abstraction. Wilson's rich abstracted figures, Mann's cityscapes, and Gandy's hyperrealistic San Francisco street scenes give rise to a visual treat—a collection of paintings replete with lush colors and details. Tue-Sat 11.a.m.-6 p.m.

Season's Fleetings

Submitted by Paul Albani-Burgio on Fri, 10/07/2016 - 3:09pm

Add a little eccentricity to your holiday season at this non-traditional art show. Faith Williams’s nativity scene, made out of pieces of cut-up credit cards and Christmas ornaments inspired by Google searches (including one comparing the differences between dinosaur species), will infuse your holiday celebrations with idiosyncrasy. Susan Hazaleus’ unconventional electronic pieces, which include a talking hat, sparkling magic wand, and blinking superhero capes, are just what you need after another year of ho-hum seasonal displays.
