Teams of seven compete head-to-head in a race that pays homage to John Fremont, an explorer and general in the Union Army, who in 1849 led an expedition along the Rio Grande in which 12 of his members died. Four team members will be tasked with carrying two “bodies,” while the seventh member, will recreate the actions of Fremont party member Alexis Godey by racing ahead to secure “provisions” (i.e. graham crackers) for the rest of the group.
