In keeping with this season’s theme of “Life on the Margins of Polite Society,” the Aurora Theater is bringing Broadway classic “Porgy and Bess” to its stage for a month-long run, directed by Donnie L. Betts. Set in the 1930s, the lives of two of Catfish Row’s inhabitants become inextricably and dangerously intertwined. Crippled beggar Porgy (Leonard Barrett) is in love with the beautiful Bess (Tracy Camp), a woman desperate to free herself from her life as a prostitute, drug addict, and abuse victim. Fleeing her former partner Crown, Bessy lands at the Row where she finds both acceptance and a relationship with Porgy before a hurricane–and Crown’s return–brings life changing devastation. In addition to concessions, attendees of the Dec. 2 performance will be able to grab free beer samples in the lobby before the show and during intermission, courtesy of Mu Brewery. Fri 7:30 p.m.; Sat 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.; Sun 2 p.m.
