Dancing snowflakes, exotic sweets, a fairy and a household tool coming to life … I mean, what’s not to like! The two-act ballet, based on the children’s tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”, by E.T.A. Hoffman, is one of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s most enchanting works. Hoffmann’s 1816 tale was dark and bizarre story that was adapted for a younger audience by Alexandre Dumas (of “The Three Musketeers” and “The Count of Monte Cristo”) and later set to music by Tchaikovsky.
