Explore the imperfect relationship between humans and machines (each with their own abilities, limitations, and sense of control) at this exhibition. Colorado-based artist Zach Reini attempted to completely remove his hand from the process of art making by relying on mechanical and robotic automation for mark-making. In some pieces, Reini used a graphic plotter (a device connected to a computer that is commonly used to output designs like architectural blueprints) with a sharpie to draw out different classic tattoo designs and car decals. But due to sensor issues and other limitations, Reini had to intervene and reposition the plotter, which influenced the final composition based on his own judgement rather than the machine’s.
