Growing Up: In Words and Images

Submitted by Cassa Niedringhaus on Fri, 07/10/2015 - 12:48pm

Joe Barry Carroll—who was chosen as the NBA's first overall draft pick in 1980—is an unlikely artist. Yet he's created a series of more than 70 evocative works, ranging from acrylic and mixed media to impressionist paintings, that illustrate his childhood in the South, his move to Denver, and his time in the NBA. (They've since been compiled in a book.) Visit this exhibit to view his paintings and learn about the life of this All-Star turned artist and philanthrophist. Mon-Wed noon-8 p.m.; Tue, Thu, Fri 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sat 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Bru in Bloom

Stop by this food and beer pairing to test the bouquet of Bru Handbuilt Ales & Eats' Bloom Bru, a Kölsch beer hand-built with chamomile, orange blossom, passionflower, and rose hip. Beer chef and Bru founder Ian Clark created the beer, which is inspired by the Denver Art Museum’s current exhibition In Bloom, to express the beauty of flowers from a different artistic perspective.
