Harvesting Hope 5K

Submitted by Mary Clare Fischer on Wed, 10/07/2015 - 4:40pm

A year ago, two Stapleton moms of kids diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome (the leading genetic cause of childhood obesity) started brainstorming about how to raise awareness. Their efforts produced this community-focused race, which takes participants through a flat 5K course before they enjoy music from Elite Entertainment and balloon art by local Gary Maes. Proceeds benefit the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research. Thu 10:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Earth-to-Table Thanksgiving

Submitted by Skyler Inman on Tue, 11/24/2015 - 12:22pm

Celebrate the true roots of the Thanksgiving meal at this native foods event. Each of the four courses uses local ingredients to create items like tequila carnitas with chopped onion, cowboy beans, and cilantro. The centerpiece of the meal is a Red Bird Farms achiote-brined turkey, served with pan gravy, although guests will also have the choice of a smoked prime rib or a tender belly pork loin, both house-made and stuffed with chorizo. To conclude the festivities, guests can sample from a dessert board of miniature sweets such as pumpkin pie, chocolate cola cake, and apple crisp.

Between bites, sip on warm beverages such as hibiscus tea and chai. Thu noon-5 p.m.

Charles Kelley

Submitted by Henry Gargan on Wed, 11/04/2015 - 12:51pm

Best known as one third of country-rock group Lady Antebellum, this singer-guitarist is using the band’s hiatus to develop some of his own music. So far he’s released a lone but promising single, “The Driver,” but a more complete offering is in the works. If the single is anything to go by, expect Kelley's solo work to be slightly more intimate than his work with his more famous outfit. Tue 7 p.m.
