Old South Gaylord

A walking tour of Wash Park's favorite block.

Hemingway's changed its name to Max Gill & Grill, the uber-hip Chi Bistro replaced Las Margaritas, and several new boutiques opened in the last year. Old South Gaylord's gone through some changes—making it well worth another lazy weekend stroll.

Start your Saturday right with a heaping plate of Stuffed Challah French Toast at Devil's Food (1024 S.

Gaylord St.). For shopping, start at the Paper Lady (2125 E. Mississippi Ave.), teeming with colorful stationery and sunny service. South Gaylord Wine Etc. (1084 S. Gaylord St.) owner Joe Kelemen is eager to talk for hours about varietals, or help you build a custom wine cellar. Across the street, there are fly rods and Patagonia for the guys at Trout's (1069 S. Gaylord St.) and funky denim for the ladies at Sarah (1067 S. Gaylord St.). Swing by the Singletrack Factory (1005 S. Gaylord St.) to pick up snowboard gear in the winter and bikes and skateboards after the thaw. Don't miss Pome (1018 S. Gaylord St.) for some shabby-chic home decor. Finish off the day with a Fire martini (basil leaf, Thai curry oil, and Grey Goose vodka) at the new Asian-fusion bistro Chi (1066 S. Gaylord St.).
