Heart Healthy

I just read your article about CT scans ["Matters of the Heart," October]. I had a stent placed in my heart—mostly because my doctor was open-minded. He recommended a CT scan, which found a 90 percent clogged artery. I was 55 at the time, in good shape as an ex-football player, and worked out four to five days a week. I never had a symptom. I was very lucky. Thanks for the article—I'm telling everyone I know to get a CT scan, even if they have to pay for it.

Go West, Young Man

I finished reading your October issue and I'd be remiss if I didn't offer sincere kudos to Eli Gottlieb for his piece entitled "Western Union." The juxtaposition of his wife's pioneering and frontiersman ancestry to his own, urban-bound Eastern European forebears was not only an effective lifestyle and temperament comparison, but self-effacing and darn funny.

Deadly Innocence

I wanted to comment on the story "Begging Joe's Pardon" [October]. What a great job your writer Michael De Yoanna did with the tragic story of a man-child on death row. The miscarriage of justice is heartbreaking, and I only hope that little Joe finds some justice all these years later. The story has been received with great interest in southeastern Colorado, including Pueblo, Cañon City, Trinidad, and all points in between.

School Ties

I'm the preschool director in a fantastic but seemingly unknown Pre-K through 12 school called Foothills Academy. Every year I flip through your Denver's Top Schools issue [September] and wonder why we are not mentioned.

Approaching our campus with a backdrop of the nearby foothills, you get an almost European feel. All of our buildings encircle a courtyard and playground. Children ride by balancing on unicycles or with a frog or bug in hand. Our school has small class sizes, and we emphasize active learning and outdoor education. Our seniors travel around the world, and our third- and fourth-graders begin an outing program with two trips a year to the mountains. We have in-house art, music, band, and choir. Please Google Foothills Academy and come visit us. I promise you will wonder why you didn't know about us before.
