John Kezer is a Colorado native with deep roots in the state. He’s a graduate of the University of Colorado with a BA and received his JD from the University of Colorado School Of Law. In his junior year John studied in Germany and he has conversational fluency in German.
John had a distinguished prior career with the State of Colorado having served in a variety of positions prior to and then ending state employment with his five plus year tenure as Commissioner of Insurance.
Since leaving state employment and returning to private practice, John’s practice has emphasized insurance law and insurance regulatory compliance as well as aspects of health law including HIPAA compliance. John represents self-funded insurance programs and trusts, insurers, insurance agencies, and insurance producers in all aspects of their business and litigation needs and in addressing regulatory compliance matters.
John also represents general businesses and healthcare businesses with corporate and transactional matters, civil litigation, including insurance coverage disputes or claims, and employee benefits and welfare benefits under ERISA. John also provides assistance to individuals for a wide variety of insurance claims. John frequently is asked and serves as an expert witness, for plaintiffs and defendants, on insurance industry standards of care regarding claims of breach of contract, insurance bad faith, and on insurance coverage issues. John is a certified course provider for CLE on ethics for insurance producers and has also acted and acts as an expert on the duties and responsibilities of such insurance producers.
John has been rated AV Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell throughout his legal career after leaving state employment and was recognized by Colorado Super Lawyers for insurance coverage in 2015 (and will be for 2016). John also has been honored by being able to serve in a variety of positions on Boards and Advisory Councils.
