Quick! Which is a bigger draw, Denver;s cultural events or its spectator sports? If you said sports - and we know that you did - don't feel to bad, you're only off by a million or so. Tally up the people who annually attend cultural events (which the Scientific and Cultural Facilities Distric defines as theater, opera, ballet, the symphony, museums, and the zoo) and you'll get 7.2 million people - compared to just 5.8 million for sports.
Theater makes up a big chunk of those numbers. More than 40 thater groups are currently at work in Denver, staging plays in everything from a converted store front with dirt floors to the nation's largest performing arts complex. And in the space of just a few years, Denver has become a force to be reckoned with on the national theater scene.
