Colorado's Nutcracker

November 1995

With $120 worth of discounted drape fabric and 100 bolts of dressmaker's netting, ribbons, and trim, Lillian Covillo and Friedann Parker busily designed and sewed costumes for their first production of "The Nutcracker." New set designs were underway with $60 investment in cardboard and paint. The year was 1961 and the two directors of the Clorado Concert Ballet were anxiously preparing for their Christmas Staging at the Bonfils Theatre.

"we thought we were taking a big risk to present six performances," says Parker of their $2000 budget performance, "We were scared to death, but we sold out ever show!"
