1. Capitalize
By Elisabeth True
The Capital Grille
(out of 4 stars)
1450 Larimer St. 303-539-2500
The Draw
Fantastic steak-house fare, faultless service, comfort, and elegance.
The Drawback
Expensive, but no more so than any other steak house.
Don't Miss
It’s hard to pick just one thing, but the coconut cream pie and the filet mignon with béarnaise sauce are true stand outs.
Vegetarian Options
Capital Grille garden salad, Caesar salad (minus the anchovy fillets), tomato and sweet onion salad; the chef will prepare a vegetarian entrée upon request.

2. Great Expectations
By Carol W. Maybach
Lucca Lucca
(out of 4 stars)
1601 Pearl St., Boulder 303-247-9700
The Draw
Inexpensive Italian cuisine served by thoughtful waiters in a lovely, casual, loftlike setting.
The Drawback
Though the name implies the restaurant hails from Lucca, Italy, there are no regional specialties; some entrées and appetizers need a flavor and texture boost.
Don't Miss
The eight-finger cavatelli and the tiramisù.
Vegetarian Options
Cheese-garlic bread, mozzarella and marinara, bruschetta, several salads, eggplant parmigiana, vegetable pizzas, pastas, and panzinis.

The Drawback
Unrelenting mediocrity in every area except freshness.
Don't Miss
Peanut butter glaze with shredded coconut, anything with mini chocolate chips.
Vegetarian Options
No meat is served, though the donuts and toppings may contain dairy and egg products.
