Instead, Denver Public Schools hold annual lotteries for open enrollment for students hoping to gain admission to sought-after high schools that are a carpool away. Meanwhile, local private schools, unburdened by public-school red tape, offer creative and flexible solutions to educational problems. Sure, some teenagers will flourish in any school. But today education is no longer one-size-fits-all.
