What happens to used pro sports jerseys?

September 2012

NUGGETS

In the event of a trade, the Denver Nuggets give the players their jerseys to keep. How sweet.

OUTLAWS

At the end of the season, Denver Outlaws players keep their away jerseys; the rest go to nonprofits for auctions and donations. Jerseys of traded athletes are reused for new players who want the same number. Ew.

ROCKIES

If players don’t want to keep their jerseys at the end of the season, they’re sent to Rockies Dugout Stores around Denver and are put on sale.

RAPIDS

A common ritual after a soccer match is to trade jerseys with the other team. The Colorado Rapids cut down on the costly practice by printing limited runs of jerseys.

AVALANCHE

Game-worn Colorado Avalanche jerseys from current and traded players are sold on meigray.com (a blue Gabriel Landeskog shirt from last season is going for a hefty $2,750).

BRONCOS

For the past 14 seasons, the Denver Broncos have kept  their active (read: beat-up) jerseys at the end of the year.
