January 2013

Becoming a published author has never been easier, thanks to the Tattered Cover LoDo’s Espresso Book Machine. A boon for writers who only need a small run, the machine prints and binds trade-quality paperbacks up to 800 pages (packages start at $25). And it’s a windfall for bookworms seeking out-of-print titles. On Demand Books, the company responsible for the press, has an extensive digital library where you can find and purchase ($7 for the first 100 pages, then two cents per page) reprints of unavailable editions. Since its installation last January, more than 2,700 volumes have been printed. While the order queue continues to rise, it doesn’t take long once you’re in line: A 150-page tome comes hot off the presses in under 10 minutes.
