Observing (A)trophy Life: Celebrating Our Luxury of Social, Personal, and Political Addiction

From his home in the border town of McCallen, Texas artist David Freeman has watched popular acceptance of the destruction wreaked by Mexican drug cartels with a critical eye. His new exhibit satirizes that normalization and celebration of violence, addiction, and patron saints of Mexico’s drug war. The show features golden trophies crafted from assembled and painted objects that he gathered in Mexico as well as life-size piñatas made in the image of border patrol guards. Wed-Fri noon-7p.m.; Sat-Sun noon-5 p.m.
