As ABC News points out, inaugural addresses are a challenge for any president, and yet The Wall Street Journal notes that "efforts to write an immortal piece of rhetoric...almost always fail." Barack Obama's address is expected to be short compared to those of past presidents--no more than 20 minutes. And the dominant theme will be responsibility, a message that's been spreading throughout America in recent days. As the Rocky Mountain News reports, for instance, Obama's call to action inspired volunteers on Monday afternoon as they packed up boxes at a food bank. Meanwhile, record numbers of people attended the African-American Heritage Rodeo at the National Western Stock Show in Denver yesterday: "inauguration fever reached even the dusty ring of the rodeo," writes The Associated Press . As for the Windsor High School band, they bundled up for an appearance on CBS' "The Early Show" yesterday on the East Coast and then met with Colorado Governor Bill Ritter before the big gig--their performance in the inauguration parade--according to CBS4 , which has a story and video.
