For Sale: Sopp & Truscott
En route home from a trip to the mountains recently, I stopped at Sopp & Truscott, the old-fashioned Silver Plume bakery, where the airy bread and rickety glass cupboards conjure up images of women in petticoats and men working the mines. The bakery, a longtime mountain establishment, is for sale--and apparently has been since last summer.
Gail and Patrick Buckley, Sopp & Truscott's owners for the last five years and residents of Silver Plume (Patrick's a native), are sick of the snow. They've posted the selling price at $187,000 for the bakery, equipment, inventory, and 30 days of training. But if you want the neighboring lot, which is a boon for parking, the bill will run you $217,000. Gail assures business is healthy and that she and her husband simply want warmer environs.
"We haven't been hit by the economic slump," she says. "If you buy this bakery, you'll be making money from day one."
The Buckleys promise they'll continue to operate until a buyer is found--so the only sign you'll see is a real estate one, not a closed one.
