Last Week for Sunsets and Margaritas

PrintLike most families, the Serranos have problems. In their case, the headache is grandfather Candelario, a character that Los Angeles playwright José Cruz González brings to life in his new Denver Center Theatre Company play, Sunsets and Margaritas [2]. The world-premiere comedy begins as Candelario drives his car into his family's restaurant, and eventually weaves together Mexican-American food, music, and ritual, as Candelario's children and grandchildren try to convince him that he might be better off enjoying his afternoons and cocktails in a retirement home. The stories of real Coloradans (Cruz González held focus groups in Denver and Pueblo before writing) shaped this comedy. Through May 16. Mon-Thu 6:30 p.m.; Fri 7:30 p.m.; Sat 1:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. The Ricketson Theatre, Speer Boulevard and Arapahoe Street 303-893-4100; $40-$50
