Why Brad Hawpe Won't Be an All-Star Starter

shane_victorinoAlthough Rockies slugger Brad Hawpe received the most votes from his peers to be placed on the National League's All-Star team, he's been left off the list of starters. Instead, National League manager Charlie Manuel will start Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino (pictured). Unfortunately, Manuel's choice makes sense: Hawpe has never played center field. And Manuel tells The Denver Post [2] he hopes to put in Hawpe somehow: "Hawpe is a tremendous player. I like everything about him. I am sure I will work him into the game." At least Hawpe made the team. There are some glaring omissions, as this list of snubs at MLB.com [3] shows, starting, in the National League, with Washington outfielder Adam Dunn, who logs 22 homers and 59 runs batted in.
