Farmers' Market Review: Olde Town Arvada

I've always been impressed with Arvada's main strip. Just as I feel like I'm about to be swallowed by Costcos and Home Depots, everything calms down into a sunny downtown area with local shops and an impressive town square. That's how Arvada became the next stop on my tour of local farmers' markets. (Read the last two here [2] and here [3].) The market: Arvada Farmers' Market [4]. (5705 Webster St., 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday through October.) The scene: A certain thrill goes through me when I see multiple signs for free parking. The streets get perfectly sleepy near the Olde Town Square, where I immediately relax and suddenly wish for a Sunday New York Times and a lazy Labrador. The vendors: The stands line the small town square, and I find myself wondering, "Is this all of it?" There's just one stand of fresh produce from Miller Farms [5], while the rest is a hodge-podge of offerings, from hand-made jewelry to tamale and hot dog stands. Bonus: While this farmers' market is still in its growing stages, it's a good jumping-off point to explore Arvada's downtown strip. I recommend heading over to the D Note [6] with the kiddos. Every Sunday at 2 p.m. they host Baby Boogie, where parents and kids can enjoy snacks, music, and, of course, dancing.
