Colorado Springs is about to discover how much its citizens care about their public parks. The cash-starved city is removing trash bins from 128 public parks as part of an effort to save $5,700 on supplies such as bags. The decision comes after officials cut 27 maintenance jobs in the Parks Department because of budget woes (via the Associated Press [2]). Officials recommend that residents simply take their trash home. Meanwhile, the picturesque, but unmonitored, Pawnee National Grassland on the high plains of eastern Colorado turned into a dump for a person (or persons) who wanted to get rid of 250 tires, spawning a federal investigation, writes 9News [3]. In another incident, 600 tires were illegally discarded on private land northeast of Greeley.
