The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has received $8 million from the Morgridge Family Foundation, the largest private donation in the museum's 109-year history, which will help build a 40,000-square-foot Science Engagement Center on the south side of the museum in City Park. The new center "will feature two floors of innovative, high-tech science activity facilities designed for preschool through eighth grade school children," according to a museum news release [2]. The center will fit into a larger museum addition that includes the Rocky Mountain Science Collections Center, a 60,000-square-foot underground storage area for 1.4 million objects in the museum's collections. Denver voters approved $30 million for the project in 2007, and the museum is required to raise $23 million, writes the Denver Business Journal [3]. The $8 million from the Morgridge Family Foundation, formed by former Cisco Systems Chairman John Morgridge and his wife, Carrie, puts the museum $15 million closer to that goal.
