The scene after an RTD bus ran a red light late on Saturday was tragic. A 1996 Ford truck was smashed into a 7-Eleven parking lot, and a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit was shattered. The driver of the Rabbit died shortly after the accident, and the passenger died later, reports The Denver Post [2]. At least 12 other people were injured, and four are in serious condition. RTD spokeswoman Pauletta Tonilas says the bus driver is a contract worker for Chicago-based Veolia and should have been subjected to the same training and drug testing required of RTD employees, writes 9News [3]. Veolia spokeswoman Valerie Michael says the company is cooperating with investigators, but she will not discuss the driver involved or the company's protocols after such an incident.
