In Kentucky's Daniel Boone National Forest, a black bear is on the loose after mauling a hiker---the first-ever recorded bear attack on a human in that state (via The Associated Press [2]). But in Colorado, it seems, bear attacks like the one reported last week [3] are on the rise. Another incident occurred Saturday morning, after a bear bit a man as he slept under a blanket near the Manna Soup Kitchen in Durango, according to the Herald [4]. Though the bite did not break skin, state and federal wildlife agents joined forces to track the bear with dogs, following a set of muddy prints to a cemetery, where the bear climbed a tree and was shot by an officer. Meanwhile, Tyler Nord recounts for the Alaska Dispatch [5] what it is like to be attacked by a bear---a grizzly, no less.
