CORRECTED: Denver's Mayoral Candidates Show Their Money

We originally stated that James Mejía had raised $160,877 for his campaign, including a self-loan of $30,000. The number does not include the loan. -ed

On Tuesday, the dozen or so candidates hoping to be elected Denver's next mayor formally began the process of putting their names on the ballot. The prospective lawmakers have until March 9 to ask voters for 300 valid signatures, placing their names on the May 3 ballot (via Fox 31 [2]). They've also raised plenty of money. Six candidates have released their tallies, perhaps in a bid to scare off the competition.

If that's the case, former state Senator Chris Romer [3] is quite fearsome with $228,359 and $201,421 on hand (data via the Denver Post [4] and 9News [5]). His closest competitor in terms of dollars is Denver Preschool program director James Mejía [6], who has raised $160,877, given himself a loan of $30,000, and has $120,924 on hand. In a close third is city Councilman Michael Hancock [7], who has $160,793, not including a transfer of $48,296 from his city council campaign coffers.

Councilwoman Carol Boigon [8] has $52,598 and transferred $56,432 from her council account. Councilman Doug Linkhart [9] boasts $38,372; he and his father loaned the campaign $65,000. And Eric Jon Zinn [10] reports $220 raised with $191 on hand.
