Best Bites: Beatrice & Woodsley's Ninny Nanny

At the wonderfully eccentric Beatrice & Woodsley [2], the whimsical interior—with its tree-trunk beams and rustic bar—spills over onto the menu. Here, you can find olive tapenade cheesecake and peculiar-sounding selections, such as the Grumpy Bunny (rabbit-leg rillettes).

Among those uniquely named options is the Ninny Nanny, which—with its harmony of color and taste—is anything but silly. Bright green asparagus and cherry-red tomatoes rest atop a mound of Meyer-lemon-infused goat ricotta, all surrounded by a fried noodle ring and topped with marinated wild mushrooms. The bubbly pan sauce that finishes the dish adds a savory tang, in perfect contrast to the sweetly tart cheese.

The dish is beautiful to admire—and even better to eat.

Tip: Stop by during happy hour (weekdays, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.) for $6 specialty cocktails and the lighter (and less expensive) “Nosh & 'Tails” menu. Try the buttermilk-blue-cheese onion rings with whole-grain mustard aïoli.
