Pizza spots are popping up around Boulder right and left, but Backcountry Pizza & Tap House [2] offers something different: a dazzling, whole-wall display of 50-plus taps. If the 23 full-time and 27 rotating draughts don't win you over, Backcountry also has 77 bottles of beer in its cellar.
A few of the more unusual finds when I visited included Mikkeller's Monk's Brew [3], a Danish take on a Belgian-style quadruple ale, and the collaborative Japanese Green Tea IPA [4] from Baird Brewing Company [5], Ishii Brewing Co. [6], and Stone Brewing Co. [7] (100 percent of proceeds benefit Japanese tsunami relief).
Even with such attention on the suds, Backcountry's food menu does not disappoint. We go for the Nediterranean pizza, a pesto-and-red-sauce pie loaded with pine nuts, garlic, roasted red peppers, artichokes, kalamata olives, and feta.
