Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, starts tonight, and its arrival has filled my head with thoughts of homemade chicken soup, brisket, and apple cake. Hey, food's a big part of being Jewish—take a read [2]. However, since living on my own, I tend to overlook the traditional dipping of apples in honey (you eat sweet food in the hopes of a sweet year ahead, get it?)—that is, until I discovered that Colorado's bounty includes apples [3].
You can go pick your own at a number of farms around the state [4], or—since this is short notice—simply head to Whole Foods Market [5], Marczyk Fine Foods [6], or Spinelli's Market [7] and take your pick of Jonagolds, Galas, and more.
Sweeten the deal with Colorado-produced honey. I recommend Beeyond the Hive [8] (find it at In Season Local Market [9]) or Simply Honey [10] (get it at the Truffle Cheese Shop [11]).
Tip: If you procrastinated (like me) and are still trying to figure out what to cook for Rosh Hashanah dinner, check here [12] and here [13] for suggestions. Your stomach will thank you.
