Sips: Club W

I'm not one for New Year's resolutions, but I'm all for adding convenience. To that end, I've kicked off 2012 with a membership to Club W [2]. This San Francisco-based wine club, which also has offices in Denver, is the best thing to happen to my wine cellar (err, box in the basement).

For $40 a month, three boutique wines (hand-selected by push-the-envelope sommeliers such as Table 6's Aaron Forman [3]) are shipped to my doorstep. Convenience aside, I love the price point and the surprise selection of cool, somewhat obscure picks that don't often make it to the shelves of Argonaut [4] or AppleJack [5].

Perhaps the best feature of all is that each bottle arrives emblazoned with a QR Code [6]. Scan it with your smart phone and find a short video (such as this [7]) providing the backstory and tasting notes. I feel like I have my own personal sommelier.

My first shipment arrived this week containing 2009 Folk Machine Central Coast Pinot Noir [8], 2009 Hobo Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel [9], and 2009 Guardian Central Coast Chardonnay [10]. I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Plus: Club W also offers $70 (six bottles) or $120 (12 bottles) monthly memberships.
