How To: Host a Wine Tasting
By: Davina van Buren

This Valentine’s Day, eschew the romantic table for two and invite everyone over for a wine tasting. Club Wino sommelier Jacob Harkins ensures you’ll make a lasting impression.

CHOOSE A THEME...

Such as wines from Colorado, $15 bottles, a particular varietal, or wines from a certain region. Ask each guest to bring a bottle. Plan on setting the mood with bubbly—it cleanses the palate and helps folks unwind.

DETERMINE YOUR APPROACH...

Blind tasting or free-flowing, and create a guest list. Learn about the grapes and regions beforehand to educate your guests and ensure a natural flow of conversation. Provide pens and paper for those who want to take notes.

PLAN A MENU...

Light hors d’oeuvres, full dinner, even a potluck—depending on the party’s theme and time frame.

For the full experience, include dessert and an accompanying wine or port.
