Join Denver's largest book club—and have a say in what book everybody reads. One Book, One Denver, now in its ninth year, is a citywide book club that aims to foster a culture of reading for youth and adults alike by encouraging everyone to read the same book and take part in community events starting in September.
The youth book, Holes [2]—a fabulous read for tweens—has already been picked, but you can cast your vote [3] for the adult winner. The nominees: [4]
— Enrique's Journey [4]: Colorado State University alumni Sonia Nazario tells the true story of a Honduran boy who faces impossible hardships while attempting to reach his mother in the United States. The book is based on her Los Angeles Times feature series [5], which won two Pulitzers.
— Denver: A Novel [6]: As Denver begins to move away from its pioneer town beginnings, the Hastings family is caught in the middle of a turbulent era in John Dunning's saga of historical fiction.
— The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl [7]: Timothy Egan's epic non-fiction book uses the stories of a dozen families to tell the tale of living through the dust storms in the High Plains in the 1930s.
The details: Pick just one book or rate one (or all three) on a scale of one to five stars. Voting ends Friday, June 22.
In other book news: Check out @1book140 [8], a Twitter book club. Yes, seriously. Read all about it here [9].
