My favorite spots along the 120th Avenue corridor in the western suburbs have always been Pho Duy [2] and the bustling Pacific Ocean Marketplace. Now, with the opening of the Early Bird Restaurant [3] I have another reason to head to this busy thoroughfare—this time for breakfast.
Daniel and Kristen Cofrades opened their breakfast and lunch spot a month ago, and Early Bird has already found a following. And it's no wonder: Since Cofrades has the pedigreed talent of the fine dining world (he trained at L’Ecole Lenotre [4] in Paris and manned the burners at Adega [5], Kevin Taylor [6], Trattoria on Pearl [7], and Jill’s at the St Julian [8]).
Cofrade’s well-honed technique and commitment to local, organic products is evident in every dish, from the extra light and puffy open-faced omelets (made with farm-fresh eggs and ingredients such as Haystack Mountain [9] goat cheese) to the flakey house-made croissants. Don’t miss the fantastic breakfast club (pictured), made with rustic toast, thick-cut bacon, roast turkey, avocado, Swiss, lettuce, heirloom tomatoes, and a fried egg served with sautéed shishito peppers and perfectly seasoned potatoes.
