The Pantry: Olde Man Granola

Last spring, I conducted a taste test [2] that pitted five locally produced granolas against each other. The winner was Udi's Natural Artisan Granola [3] with cranberries and walnuts.

But on a recent trip to the Stapleton farmers' market [4], I discovered a new favorite: Golden-based Olde Man Granola [5]. The original nut blend is made with toasted oats, brown sugar, sweet butter, crunchy pecans, and a hint of coconut. It has fresh-roasted crunch, pleasing richness (thanks to the butter), and that bit of coconut makes me feel like I'm on vacation. While the butter nudges up the fat content—5.25 grams per quarter cup versus Udi's 4.5 grams—the satisfying flavors are worth it.

Olde Man offers several varieties, including apple-walnut and chocolate-nut. Look for the granola at local farmers' markets [6], specialty gift shops [6], and at the Olde Man Granola Shop [6] in Westminster.
