Don't Miss: Le Grand's Oyster Week Festival

Oysters may seem like special-occasion food, but really, the silky, oceanic morsels are reason enough to rejoice. In fact, several years ago, writer Bill Buford penned a New Yorker [2] piece that precisely captured the bivalve's ethereal appeal. Read it here [3] and then head to Le Grand Bistro & Oyster Bar [4] to partake in the restaurant's first-annual Oyster Week Festival.

Through Sunday, October 21, fans can nab 75-cent oysters on the half-shell all day long, and try daily specials that include po-boys and (the somewhat irreverent) fried oyster nachos with hollandaise, wholegrain mustard, and fresh mozzarella. There's also trivia (maybe Buford's article will come in handy!) and prizes.

Bonus: At 5:30 p.m. each evening, chef Jeremy Thomas embarks on a shucking demo and an oyster history lesson.
