Arapahoe Basin ’s Save Our Snow Celebration is made for Coloradans: Powderhounds, environmentalists, and music-lovers alike will appreciate its earth-friendly focus. On Saturday, the resort's base will be transformed into “Green Village," an educational hub set up by sustainability-focused businesses and organizations in the local community. (Major event-only perk: Adult lift tickets are only $69.)
Skiers and snowboarders can meet the village participants—including Friends of Dillon Ranger District , Innovative Energy , the Alpine Source , Clif Bar , Colorado Foundation for Water Education —who will provide information on their environmental efforts and offer guidance on how the public can become more involved. Between slashing spring ski-runs and perusing the Green Village take a break to dance: Music at the base—provided by local radio station KRYSTAL 93 —will be followed with live performances from local jam-band High 5 at 2 p.m. Be sure to enter the event raffle for a chance to win prizes like an A-Basin season pass, Avalanche tickets, and Planet Earth clothing.
Save Our Snow benefits the High Country Conservation Center (HC3), a Colorado-based organization that promotes and supports programs for waste reduction, energy conservation, green building, and climate change. HC3 also provides environmental education to A-Basin employees, who often engage in the group's volunteer and fundraising opportunities. Bonus: Keep an eye out for Smokey Bear . He’ll be at the base area spreading the word about fire prevention.
Get-Involved: Join the festivities. Twenty dollars from each adult lift ticket sale and 100 percent of the raffle ticket proceeds benefit the High Country Conservation Center.
