Fort Collins will be home to one of three new U.S. temples built by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is intended to serve more than 20,000 Mormons living in northern Colorado, southern Wyoming, and western Nebraska (Coloradoan ). At this point—about a month into its Broadway previews and shows—more people have almost certainly seen The Book of Mormon, "playing at a 101 percent capacity, with millions of dollars in advance ticket sales," writes New Yorker critic John Lahr. He doesn't think the musical—a collaboration between South Park's Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q's Barry Lopez—is "great," but Lahr doesn't exactly pan it, either.
Still, most reviews are waxing "rhapsodic" (Washington Post ), adding to Denver Post theater critic John Moore's early observations . Longtime Colorado lobbyist Leo Boyle should be pleased right about now: The Regis High School graduate is beating the Broadway odds with his investment in Mormon (Denver Post ).
