When Tim League opened the first Alamo Drafthouse , he wanted to make it "the theater for movie fans by movie fans" (emphasis my own). That seems to have been a successful ploy because the company is now opening its 12th theater—and its first in Colorado. On Monday, March 25 Alamo Drafthouse Littleton in Aspen Grove will welcome patrons into a seven-screen cinema, with a full bar and restaurant service in each theater. Sounds like a fun night out. But Alamo is a little different than your run-of-the-mill neighborhood spot. Here's a quick introduction:
Opening Credits: Foxy Brown herself will be in town to kick-off the grand opening during An Evening with Pam Grier . The Colorado native (she graduated from East High School) is known as being one of the early butt-kicking females on the big screen. Enjoy a selection of clips from Grier's 30-year career before taking part in a discussion and Q&A with the actress. 7 p.m.
Act One—The Rules: We're all used to the "please no talking or texting" PSAs that light up the screen right before the movie starts. You know, the ones that look like they were made with clip art in the 1990s. Alamo takes a different angle: Check out this hysterical—and real—PSA . Yes, it's amusing, but the theater takes it seriously. There's a legit zero tolerance policy for talking or texting.
Act Two—Wining & Dining: As you sit back and enjoy your evening, you can also order food and drinks that will be brought to your seat. Alamo has a full-service bar with a large selection of local craft spirits and beers. The tap wall lineup includes some 5280 favorites such as Great Divide's Colette , Colorado Cider 's Glider Cider, Boulder Beer's Hazed & Infused, and Left Hand's Milk Stout Nitro . Even better: Glass Half Full is the theater's stand-alone bar so you can grab drinks before a flick or extend the evening with a nightcap afterward.
Finale: Well, not really. Alamo will host a week of special programming from April 4 through April 11 to showcase a sampling of the types of events the theater hosts (yes, they offer more than just movies). Highlights include Quote-Alongs with The Big Lebowski and Anchorman, free family screenings, and an Oskar Blues Beer dinner (I heard mention of pizza in a cup...).
